The fact that you are not a good self-promoter speaks volumes of the sort that matters for you. Self promotion is appalling. Even the most shameless people on the planet - politicians - naturally shy from it these days, choosing instead to spend their campaigns mostly denigrating someone else. Too bad that's also appalling. But hey, that's our culture for ya - the endless frantic hustle. I recently went paid and i've made fives of dollars. I bypass the paywall on everything i post, it's still up there for free if that's how you prefer it. If someone wants to pay me, they're welcome to, or not, i get it. I'd love to pay for all my favorite stuff on here. I'd need a second income to do it. The model is a tad flawed. But a great space nonetheless, and there's a reason the outside world has libraries. Thanks so much for your writing!

"Fives of dollars" I love that, because it's so true, and true about paying for so many accounts I like. Most writers who try to scratch out a living are flat broke most of the time. That's just the way it is, and it pains me to see so many accounts I'd gladly pay for: if only I had the money to pay for it...as for me, Ill be totally happy with fives of dollars, and if there isn't even that, I'll still be happy...

My brother! Love it. I've been a hunter, a trapper, a singer-songwriter under contract, a working field biologist, a horse farmer. Only period i wasn't making fives of dollars was when i was consulting for the oil patch. Made up for lost ground, but never trusted that money. Only state i'm comfortable in is when i'm not.

I’m trying to figure out both sides. That is: who reads me and who I read re: $

It's tough. Writers are the group most likely to appreciate and pay for good writing, but also the group most likely to not be able to afford it.

The golden rule of publishing. Do for another author what you hope they’ll do for you.

Alright...I'm in, damnit! I suspect you've become accustomed to sleeping indoors during certain times of the year, and probably fond of eating 3 times a day, plus dog food and vets aren't cheap. Nor are wives.

My modest contribution is NOT indicative of the pleasure I receive from your scribbling and photos.

Ha! Thanks so much, Steve. Must be the Norman Native Support Group...and seriously, I didn't turn on the paid option to get paid (see comments above about making "fives of dollars" :) ) but there had been a few people who pledged, and I thought maybe I was unintentionally being rude by ignoring the gesture. Maybe at the end of stories instead of the "if you liked this story, buy me a cup of coffee" pay link that a lot of writers add, I'll say "Buy me a box of shotgun shells"....
